Heart of Enfield Mosque

Founded in 2012 with a vision of establishing a Mosque in the locality, Heart of Enfield Mosque is the leading Muslim organisation in the Enfield Lock area. Since its inception, the organisation has worked to provide and sustain a range of services for the local community, with a view to help support the spiritual needs of the local Muslim community. Over the past decade we are pleased to have been able to proactively work to serve a community in need of a permanent Mosque, helping facilitate the array of local needs.

In July 2023, we completed the purchase of a large space that will allow us to develop a facility that can better serve the community through a permanent Mosque. We are pleased to have  secured the required funds to complete the purchase through a fundraising campaign in Ramadan of 2023. Despite the successful purchase, it did come owing to large interest free loans which the charity must now work to repay.

Situated in a strategic location within proximity of the local shopping area on the main Hertford Road, this site presents an excellent opportunity to establish an iconic facility in the heart of the area already served by the organisation these past 10 years.

What will the new site offer?

Acquiring this 1204 square metre site will enable us to serve our community’s needs with a facility fit for purpose. We will be able to through developing a purpose built facility

  • Grow our service to provide larger and better prayer facilities for the entire community, including Women, children & families within the framework of a family friendly Mosque setup.
  • Develop our educational services with dedicated classrooms and learning facilities for both the Muslim & wider community.
  • Offer services for local young people with youth spaces & activities.
  • Support our local community through expanding our local outreach & humanitarian projects.
  • Create a range of multi purpose spaces that can cater for so many local needs, from Nikah officiation to advice & counselling.
  • Create social events & activities for everyone to enjoy their new Mosque.

The three-phase development program

Phase one: Sustainability | Complete

The initial phase of this project has been earmarked for sustainability . It is vital we create an organisation that is sustainable in its model and has processes and plans in place to ensure the longevity of the vision. Every donation is a responsibility upon us and one we plan to take with great consideration and due effort. A financially efficient organisation allows the community to enjoy an organisation that will flourish itself without the constant need for cash injection. Sustainability also extends beyond financial needs to creating an organisation and model that allows the very existence of the organisation to be maintained. During phase 1, the organisation will develop a hybrid model of working utilising its current various rental facilities and the newly acquired site where applicable.

  • Generate the £1.1 Million required for acquisition through community fundraising, interest free loans, engaging high net worth donors and Investments.

  • Develop a sustainable income model that allows for the day to day running of the organisation and its development by creating income generation projects through social enterprise and donor engagement. This will include utilising the already present residential property on the site for rental income and developing the Western Province company

  • Identify and develop key performance indicators with tangible delivery targets and build the required infrastructure for achievement with view to achieving our three year plan. These will range from financial and educational to community outreach and environmentalism.

  • Develop the site for immediate needs and prepare the space to the best of our ability for short and medium term use.

Phase two: Accessibility | Ongoing

The accessibility stage of the project will focus on shifting the organisations work away from working out of rented premises to a full move over to the new mosque. It is hoped by this stage the demands of needing to ensure the organisations financial well being will have subdued. With that, this phase will seek to begin to develop the services a fully fledged mosque can offer, alongside continuing to build on the work in the initial phase. Accessibility will seek to focus on developing an organisation that is inviting and encouraging to the diverse British Muslim community & wider population with adequate facilities for both men & women and all age groups.

  • Establish daily prayers & religious services for the community in the new space. This will also include developing regular educational services & social programs relevant to the local needs.

  • Develop structured outreach & community development initiatives ranging from school visit programs & permanent infrastructure for localised distribution of support to disadvantaged people to personal development programs for young people & inter faith work.
  • Build on the Phase 1 key performance indicators and develop a wider range of goals with the required further investment in infrastructure ensuring a sustained effort to continue systematic achievement and growth in the community.

  • Clear outstanding debt and dues through continued fundraising efforts, development of income generation projects, funding & focused growth of long term donor support and commitment to ensure a clear path to developing Phase 3.

Phase three: Legacy | Planned

Legacy represents the conclusion of the three-phase process of initial development of the Heart of Enfield Mosque. Here, the organisation’s focus shifts away from the initial building blocks and establishment of the charity to forging the long term definition and existence of the organisation and its operation in the locality. The legacy stage will once again require the organisation to seek financial support from the community as we look to develop a purpose built mosque on the site in place of any semi-permanent structures with a view to using the experiences of the first two stages to developing a structure fit for purpose for the needs of the local community.

  • Develop plans for a purpose built mosque on the acquired site and seek relevant permissions from local authority for construction & use. This will focus on creating spaces & facilities of specific relevance with design and construction conscious of environmentalism.

  • Focus program & activity delivery through a departmentalised set up increasing the use of a senior management team and a decentralised approach to the way of working, allowing greater efficiency and productivity growth.
  • Develop a new growth and development strategy post the three phases to reflect the changing needs and priorities of the organisation. These will move away from the setup and building of the organisation to longer term aspirations, deliverables and goals as part of a newly established long term vision.
